On July 25th and October 16th, 2024, events in Lourdes fostered intercultural dialogue and integration between Ukrainian refugees and the local French community through engaging activities, including icebreaker games and traditional craft workshops, culminating in shared experiences and connections.

On July 25th, a heartfelt event unfolded in the picturesque town of Lourdes, aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue and integration between Ukrainian refugees and the local French community.

The event began with a series of engaging icebreaker games designed specifically for children, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. These activities encouraged the young participants to interact, share laughter, and forge new friendships, setting the stage for a day filled with creativity and discovery. Following the icebreakers, the attendees moved to a workshop where they learned the art of crafting traditional Ukrainian motankas, or dolls. This activity not only introduced the children to an important aspect of Ukrainian culture but also allowed them to express their creativity through hands-on crafting.

The event culminated in a delightful snack break, where all participants gathered to enjoy sweet treats, fostering further interaction among the children and their families. This thoughtful initiative was sponsored by the theater company Zorro et Compagnies from Toulouse, which generously provided all the materials and refreshments needed for the day's activities. The workshop was expertly facilitated by Alla Yukhymchuk and Marisa Mirenda.

This gathering was not just about crafts; it was also an effort to promote mental well-being through creativity and connection. By offering a rich cultural and educational experience, the event aimed to bridge gaps between different communities, highlighting the beauty of diversity and the importance of inclusivity.

On October 16th, Lourdes played host to another inspiring event titled "Traditions and Creativity 2.0," designed to further cultivate meaningful connections and cultural exchange between Ukrainian and French youth.

The event began with lively icebreaker games that allowed participants to connect and share laughter, easing any apprehensions and paving the way for collaborative experiences. Following these introductory activities, attendees engaged in a hands-on workshop focused on traditional Ukrainian straw crafting. Under the expert guidance of UnityEcho members Alla Yukhymchuk and Natallia Ivleeva, participants explored the intricate techniques involved in creating charming straw dolls and unique geometric "spiders." Each creation was infused with cultural significance, allowing participants to connect with their heritage while also embracing environmental mindfulness.

Thanks to the support of Zorro et Compagnies, the theater group from Toulouse, all crafting materials were provided, ensuring that participants could focus solely on the joy of creation. The workshop not only emphasized the beauty of traditional crafts but also fostered an appreciation for the stories and histories that accompany them.

This time allowed attendees to share their thoughts on the day’s experiences, solidifying the new friendships forged through creativity and cultural exchange.
